Detectives and survival

Class 3 pupils were asked to write about the 'Detectives' and 'Survival' topics - what they had enjoyed, what they would have liked to do more of, which topic they preferred.  Their writing was very informative and Mrs Bull was intrigued to find some of the children giving her marks for the topics!

Here are some excerpts.....

Forensic science

It was the best topic I had ever done, it was more than science it was great. I really liked the whole investigation. I woke up every  Monday morning looking forward to find out more about the experiments. It was like I was one of the investigators in c.s.i. Miami. I was surprised at all the different evidence we found and I loved making the badges with our name and age on. When I found out that Mrs Ball did the crime I was really surprised and over all I would mark this topic. 10/10

Survival

Survival I didn't really like this topic it's not the type of topic I liked, but I did like the making our tents, planting the plants and making our necklaces. I liked making the tents because we were out side instead of in the class room and we ate our lunch in it. Mine kept on falling down but it was really fun. Planting the seeds were all so good because we are growing plants and we had to water them and me and my group said we felt like farmers. I liked making the necklaces because I felt like part of a tribe Over all I would mark this topic 6/10

Review

Detectives / forensic science 10/10

The detectives topic was really fun to do and I liked it that we did a different thing every week.  It was funny when my mum was the culprit of the case on missing Miss Stanley.  I also loved making our own detective cases.  It was quite hard at first beause it was quite confusing to plan it out but when people started testing our things it got really fun.  I think that doing the forensic science really showed me what it's like being a real detective.  I loved looking for clues and doing weird tests the best because I like making things like that.

Survival 10/10

The survival was really fun and I really enjoyed it.  I loved making the flags the most because I liked mashing the fruit.  Also making the rafts and dens on the green and making the tents in the field.

The necklaces were really good too.

The dens on the green were really fun to make.  We were by a tree so we had shade and also we used some of the branches to surround the area where our den is.  We made a toilet through the long grass then we hung fake food up in the trees.

Detectives

Enjoyed

I enjoyed searching the crime scene because it was like being a real detective. Checking your own hand print was fun. The whole experience was thrilling. It was fun finding out who had done it, but finding out which powder was the right one was tricky.

The things I would have liked to work a bit more on

I would have loved to have worked with the blood a bit more, lifting it off something. The hand prints I would have liked to lift off something in the crime scene.

Survival

Enjoyed

Building the shelters was the best bit about it, it was fascinating. I found it interesting checking the pond water. It was exciting to see how it worked, and what was the best way of making it clean. I enjoyed checking the materials for the shelter.

The things I would have liked to work a bit more on

I would have liked to do a bit more on soil samples.

Thank you Mrs Bull for a memorable science experience.

Forensic Science

The thing I enjoyed and found most interesting in the forensic science topic was the planning of the investigation, choosing our own groups of 3 and setting up the crime scene. I felt I was really involved in doing it. I particularly liked setting up the investigation (we'd made), for Class 2 and making the blood out of red die and water. I was very intrigued by it. I enjoyed it all and there wasn't anything I didn't like.

Survival Topic

At first I thought the idea of making our own tents was fun but when I got into making them I realised that it was such a fantastic thing to do and our tent worked really well. It was strong, sturdy, and big enough for us all to fit in it. The material we used was a plastic table cloth. We made the frame of the tent out of thick, plastic poles. I thought it excellent. The bad bit was about this topic was I missed out making rafts.

Over All

All though I thought they were both incredible fun and exciting the over all winner has to be the forensic science topic, because I was gripped by it the most. I thought it was a good topic to choose.

Thank you Mrs Bull

I really enjoyed doing the forensic science it was very interesting. | mainly enjoyed going onto the crime scene, but I also enjoyed adding up all the clues to find our conclusion. I really enjoyed making up our own scenario, it was a very good topic and Mrs. Bull made it very interesting. When we had done the part of finding all the different reasons and happenings there could have been it was very exciting. Although I didn't find it fair some people got to interview the suspects and some didn't. When we were asked what topic we preferred out of the forensic or the survival it was very hard to choose but I think I enjoyed the survival topic slightly more.

Survival compared with detectives

I thought detectives was the best because it was a brilliant idea (It was the best science lesson I have ever had.) I absolutely loved the fake blood samples, other teams put too much vinegar in the test tubes so it frothed over the top.  I enjoyed making our own experiments although mine didn't work out as well as well as we thought it would.

Survival

I learnt more in survival than in detectives because you need to know more about how to survive.  The shelters were really fun to make so it was quite sad when we took them down. I really liked planting the 'squash' seeds with Charlotte and Latysha.  I was kind of the 'soil delivery girl'.
